UGA Cornerback Arrested After Being Caught Going Over 100 MPH

Athens-Clarke County police arrested University of Georgia cornerback Nyland Green at 4:45 a.m. Sunday for driving 102 mph in a 45 mph zone.

According to the police report, Green was driving a 2021 Dodge Charger when he was pulled over on Gaines School Road near Milledge Avenue. The officer reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle and saw a small amount of suspected marijuana on the floorboard.

Green was arrested and charged with speeding, reckless driving, and possession of marijuana. He was taken to the Clarke County Jail.

Green is a rising sophomore for the Bulldogs and was expected to be a starter this season. He played in all 15 games last season, recording 23 tackles and two interceptions.

The arrest comes at a time when Georgia is already dealing with a number of injuries in its secondary. Star cornerback Kelee Ringo is out indefinitely with a foot injury, and fellow cornerback Jalen Kimber is also dealing with an injury.

Green's arrest is the latest in a string of off-field incidents involving Georgia football players. In March, wide receiver Arik Gilbert was arrested for misdemeanor simple battery. In April, linebacker Adam Anderson was arrested for felony rape.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to open the 2022 season on Sept. 3 against Oregon in Atlanta.
