Longtime Leader to Leave Post After School Year

Decade of Progress

Yale University President Peter Salovey announced Thursday that he will step down after the school year, ending a decade of leadership that has seen the Ivy League institution make significant progress.

Salovey, 70, has been president of Yale since 2013. During his tenure, the university has expanded its financial aid program, increased its focus on diversity and inclusion, and launched several new initiatives to promote teaching and research.

"I have loved every minute of my time at Yale," Salovey said in a statement. "It has been an honor to lead this extraordinary institution and to work alongside so many talented faculty, staff, and students."

Under Salovey's leadership, Yale has also strengthened its global presence, establishing new partnerships with universities in China, India, and Africa.

Next Chapter

Salovey's decision to step down comes as Yale faces a number of challenges, including declining enrollment and increasing competition from other elite universities.

The university has not yet announced a replacement for Salovey. A search committee will be formed to identify a new president.

In his statement, Salovey said he plans to continue his work in higher education and public service after he leaves Yale.

"I am excited about the next chapter in my life," he said. "I am confident that Yale will continue to thrive in the years to come."
